Duluth Bedroll

With the cash I got for chrimbo I bought myself a Duluth bedroll from Tamarack.
My first impression was it looked well made. The canvas is heavy duty and I think could be waterproofed with Thompsons waterseal (I used to use this on my old Landy and it works very well but there might be a smell problem). I unrolled it and laid it on the lounge floor. It has three compartments, one is a small one into which you can stuff a couple of jumpers to make a pillow. The other two are the same size as the bedroll, there's one on the back for a mattress, which goes in through the top. I put a 3/4 length thermorest in but you could fit a much larger one in there. The sleeping compartment does not go the full length it stops at the pillow so your head would never be covered. It has a heavy duty zip down both sides. I put a sleeping bag in and got in. There is plenty of width to it but I would have liked a bit more length. When laid flat on my back my feet were right to end and a little cramped when I laid on my side it was ok. I sleep on my side with my legs curled up and in this position it is very comfortable with plenty of room.
It will never keep you dry like a goretex bivvy bag but I always feel cramped in a bivvy bag and I don't in this. It's the extra width that I like, there's plenty of room to keep some of your kit in there with you.
He's a couple of photos
